Basically, you can think of Prepar3d as the logical successor to the MS Flight Simulator series optimized to take advantage of today’s computers. If you haven’t heard of Prepar3d before, it’s a training and academic flight simulation maintained and updated by the Lockheed Martin team using the ESP engine licensed from Microsoft, the same engine used in FS9 and FSX.

If reading directly from a Flight Simulator you will need the XPACK version of SimConnect or FSUIPC/XPUIPC to be installed. It should also be noted that, whilst most addons that make use of FUSUIPC will happily work with the freeware version some do require the payware version.From v2.1 onwards, Lockheed Martin’s flight simulator Prepar3d is now compatible with all your Saitek Pro Flight hardware. If you decide to buy the payware version there is no need to uninstall the freeware version - simply follow the instructions to unlock and register the additional features using the 'serial key' sent to you. The differences in functionality is easy to see - all of the payware functions are there but 'greyed' out.
